On Tuesday, June 13, global apparel and footwear giant Adidas announced entering a partnership with popular digital artist FEWOCiOUS for a physical sneakers collection, to be sold through an NFT redemption pass.
This is yet another step from Adidas to deliver deeper into the world of digital collectibles and keep on the competitive pace with its rival Nike. As per the announcement, Adidas will collaborate with FEWOCiOUS in order to launch a range of physical and digital drops by incorporating the artists’ playful style, deeply personal approach, bold aesthetic, etc.
The company calls the Adidas Originals x FEWOCiOUS collection a “harmonious collision of perspectives”. Also, this will include an NFT along with an artist-designed physical Adidas Originals Campus 00’s sneaker.
Starting this month June 22 onwards, there will be a total supply of 4,500 Trefoil Flower Mint Passes available for minting on the OpenSea marketplace. Also, the NFT mint pass will function as a direct redemption ticket for a pair of custom-designed physical sneakers called Adidas Originals Campus 00s.
Later, the mint pass holders can burn the NFT via a process starting in August this year, and the shipping will begin the following month. Interestingly, each pair of physical sneakers will come embedded with an NFC tag, a popular tech device available in smartphones, passports, and contactless credit cards, and later linked to a companion NFT.
The Trefoil Flower NFT will be released through a pre-sale in three stages, followed by a public minting event. People who already own Adidas’ Alts Decos and Soles NFTs, along with Fewocious Paint Drops, will have early access to minting the Trefoil Flower NFT at a discounted price of 0.2 ETH, which is approximately $350 at the moment.
Adidas and FEWOCiOUS Partnership
This is not the first time that Adidas has entered into a partnership with FEWOCiOUS. The 20-year-old transgender youth made their debut with Adidas in an official capacity at Studio (Three Stripes Studio) during Art Basel Miami in December 2022.
After joining the NFT space three years ago, Fewocious has emerged as one of the prominent creators in Web3. With over $50 million in lifetime sales, Fewocious has collaborated with renowned entities such as Nike-owned RTFKT, esteemed auction houses Christie’s and Sotheby’s, and the David Bowie estate.
On the other hand, Adidas has become quite active in the NFT space ever since purchasing its first Bored Ape NFT and then using the same to create a fictional character Indigo Herz in December 2021. Adidas also has its own “Into the Metaverse” collection that has facilitated more than $150 million worth of NFT trading volume to date. It also allows holders to claim exclusive merchandise.
